These are questions frequently asked about taking lessons online through DW.
I'm sure there will be more questions and when they do come in we will add them to this page. Please check here first to be sure you question isn't already answered before posting in the Digitizers Forum or emailing us.
Q: What classes are available?
A: Just check our online Online Class Calendar here!
Q: I'd like to attend a class online but my computer area is a MESS and I don't want anyone to see my house!
A: It's a 1-way transmission. You will be able to see the teacher's computer screen but they won't see your computer screen, or you, or your house. You can come to classes in your jammies if you want to, nobody will know.
Q: I signed up for a class but I decided that I don't want to take the class after all. Now what?
A: Contact the teacher as soon as you know you won't be taking the class. They may be able to work out a credit for a different class, or make some other deal with you, or may issue a refund to you. Note that tuition refunds are strictly up to the teacher as DW is not part of the transaction.
Q: I paid for a class but I couldn't attend... Now what?
A: If you're a student, you should contact the teacher that you paid in order to work out a makeup time if one is available. Our suggested policy for teachers is to issue a class credit for anyone that misses a class they have scheduled. The credit can be used to make reservations for the next time that teacher is holding the same class online. If you use a credit to reserve time again and still don't attend then they are not required to issue another credit.
Q: Is your system reliable?
A: Yes. The company that provides the software to us has been servicing Fortune 500 companies for years and we have a very stable product.
Q: I use dial-up modem to connect to the internet. Can I use your system?
A: No. What the teacher does on her screen would not show up on your screen for many seconds. The time delay would make following along impossible. I wish we had a better answer than that but it simply isn't physically possible for you to participate until you can get a broadband connection to the internet. (DSL, Cable, Satelite are all okay -- but dial-up modem over the phone systems simply won't work. (NOTE: I have surveyed potential students and find that 90% of them are already connected to the internet with cable, DSL, or satelite!)
Q: I want to take classes that nobody offers yet. What can I do?
A: The best solution would be to contact all the teachers you see listed and ask if they can teach the software you want to learn. You can do that by emailing them OR if you've joined DW as a "Digitizer" you can simply post in the digitizing forum that you're looking for someone to teach _____ software to you.
Questions From Teachers
Q: I've scheduled a class but it's not on the calendar.
A: Did you pay to reserve a time slot? What is the order number? Did you post the time request in the scheduling area?
Q: I scheduled a class but nobody showed up for it. Now what?
A: If a student paid for a class and couldn't attend, you can issue them a 1-time credit to re-take the class when you are teaching it again. If they use the credit to reserve a spot in a class again and still don't show up, then you are not required to issue them another credit. I suggest you TRACK credits issued with a number and make a note of when a student uses the credit to reserve a time again.
Q: I had a class scheduled but I got sick and couldn't teach. Now what?
A: Make arrangements with others that teach the same general class as yours to cover each other if needed. As soon as you know you won't be able to teach the class, contact your cover person and arrange for them to take over the class for you. It's VERY IMPORTANT that you also notify the student(s) that you are having another teacher substitute for you. If you don't have anyone to cover your class, you must notify the student(s) immediately and offer to reschedule. Failure to take care of your obligation will result in your loss of use of our system.
Q: Do you collect the money from the students and pay me for teaching?
A: No. Students pay you directly. I suggest you use Paypal.
